Sara's Surgery

Just before our trip to the Midwest, we had an initial consult with an orthopedic surgeon about Sara's thumbs that didn't straighten. Upon looking at her thumbs for just seconds, the surgeon told us Sara had Trigger Thumbs. If they were not fixed, Sara would begin to hyper-extend her thumbs to make up for the lack of mobility in the joint and the only solution was surgery. The procedure was scheduled for today and Sara did great (not so sure about Mommy)! She had the "Anastasia" socks on (our niece Katie got a pair of socks to keep her warm while she was under anesthesia during a procedure she had a few years back and thought Grammy had called them "Anastasia" socks...the term stuck) and "Lamby" in her arms, she was set! She is doing great now and tomorrow we will change her bandage and see how things look for the first time.

Midwest Visit

We just got home from a week and a half vacation in the Midwest. In route to our first stop, we had a 5 hour layover in Minneapolis. Not fun for a 30-year-old, wait I mean 3-year-old, so we detoured to the Mall of America to enjoy the afternoon. We had a lot of fun and it was just enough time to see everything of interest to Sara and make it back to MSP in time for our connecting flight to Wisconsin. We spent a few days at a cottage in the north woods with the Weilands. It was nice to spend time together with the whole family and to finally meet Bennett and Sophie! The next stop in our tour of the Midwest brought us to Michigan where we spent the remainder of the trip visiting the Yaklins. We were happy to see many of the extended family members and even took a trip to the lake! We had a great time with both families and made some wonderful memories!

Family Fun in the Sun

We had the day to play! So, we started at the zoo...this time we were able to see a few more animals than just the peacocks. After Sara's nap, we were able to head down to the park for a little splash time. It was the perfect activity for this 100 degree day. Hope you enjoy the pictures of our day in the June album!

Memorial Day Weekend!

Memorial Day weekend is the official summer kick-off and we made sure to have a little fun.  Friday, Sara and I went to the zoo.  I think I'm going to have to go back a few more times so Sara can actually see the animals...she only wanted to play on the jungle gym this time!  Sunday, Owen and I celebrated 6 wonderful years of marriage.  Sara even cooperated for our 'Big Date Night'!  Today we spent the day in the Jemez Mountains and had a ball in the hot springs and going through the tunnels.  Our adventures have been added to the May album for you to enjoy!

Sara's 3rd Birthday/Mother's Day

I am one lucky mom today, remembering how I became fortunate enough to celebrate this day in the first place...today is Sara's 3rd birthday! We are celebrating with a day of family fun. We went to the park to play with her new tricycle, blew bubbles in the backyard, and created some great family memories throughout the day.

We would also like to share with everyone that the Yaklin family will be adding a new addition at the end of September..we are expecting a baby boy! So blessed to have this new addition join us this fall!

Sara's 'STAR' Birthday

Even though there were plenty of 'stars' at the party today, they did not quite aline for Sara's backyard BBQ birthday party. Mother Nature had other plans and gave us a late-afternoon burst of rain. Good thing we could see it coming and decided to setup for an indoor party. Even though most of the festivities were inside, we still had a really great time. Warrior Dash!

Owen has been training for the past 6 weeks for the warrior dash and yesterday was the big day! It was a 5k obstacle course where he climbed over walls, crawled through mud, and jumped over fire...it was quite the race. He had a goal to finish in 40 minutes, but all that training had done him good and he finished in just 32 minutes and placed 503 out of 8400 people! I only got a few pictures from the day, but I'm sure you will see what a warrior he can be!!

Adele's 60th Birthday

Adele threw quite the party to celebrate a fantastic milestone in her life...60! The day could not have turned out any better and we have a few pictures to share from the day. Sara had a great time on the dance floor, but on the way home she reminded us that her birthday is next. I'm not sure we can compete with that for a party, even if the "stars" align...

Princess Crown

Sara was going through Mom's hair accessories (fancy for 'extra stuff') and found a "princess crown" that she decided was a MUST for today's outfit. So, Mom decided it was time for Sara's first ponytail and to let the "princess crown" hold all of the little wispies back. Mom thought she looked glamorous (that is a fancy word for 'stylish and beautiful', like a movie star!) Sara has been LOVING the Fancy Nancy books, in case you couldn't tell! :)

Pool Time in April!

It has been a beautiful weekend here in ABQ, so we decided to have a little pool time. Here are a few pictures from our afternoon. Lets hope that a snow storm doesn't hit ABQ in a few days like it did the last time we filled up the pool!
